User Guide - how to use the e-lab

Through this interactive section of the LifeWatch.be portal users can upload their own data using a standard data format, and choose from several web services, models and applications to process the data.

This page helps you choose the right web services by applying different filters. For example, click on ‘Marine’, ‘Taxonomy’ and ‘Aphia/WoRMS’. It will show you a 📋list📋 of services you can choose from to process your data.

Use cases are examples of how you can use services to show and analyze your data 🧑‍🔬. They will give you a set up and which steps to follow to use the services.

Run services 🏃

On this page you are able to upload your own file or to try out a marine or terrestrial demo file.

To upload your own data files to the e-Lab, you will require a log-in and password. You can obtain these freely by clicking on the ‘Log In’ Icon on the top right side of your screen. Choose the ‘Sign In’ option and follow the steps. Without log-in and password you can use a marine or terrestrial demo file to discover the functionalities of the e-Lab.

Upload your own data file ⌛

  • Prepare your 🌌data🌌 file for upload.

    Allowed file types: Plain text [TXT], Plain text [CSV], Excel [XLS] and Excel [XLSX].

  • Click on “Browse” or “Choose file” (depending on your browser) to upload your file.

  • This will open the file explorer on your PC 🖥️

  • Select your file.

    Heading: use the flag box to indicate whether your first row contains the column names or not.

    Column delimiter: select the relevant column delimiter: Tab, Semicolon (;), Comma (,) or Vertical bar

    Decimal symbol: select the relevant decimal symbol: Comma (,) or Point (.)

    Data format: select “lifewatch” for all web services (except for “Check OBIS file”); only select “obis” for the “Check OBIS file” web service (see above).

Order services

Verify and change order if necessary. In case of multiple web services selected, the order can be changed by dragging the boxes into the order wanted.

Confirm columns

When you click “Next”, you are redirected to the preview screen. Make sure that every column name from the uploaded file corresponds with a column name from the pick list. Click ‘Confirm’.

Note: if this step does not work, try to open e-lab on a different browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, … )

🏃Run🏃 job

The following message appears:

Click on “Results”. Your result file will appear at the top of the results table. This table gives an overview of the requested web services and any errors that might have occurred during the process. These files are linked to your account and can be downloaded for further analysis at any time.

Here you can find the previous jobs submitted with their original file and their job status 📈
